What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants refer to titanium, screw-shaped posts that can be surgically placed beneath the gumline, directly into the jawbone. They’re considered one of the best ways to replace missing teeth, since they restore the whole structure from the roots to the crown.

There are different types of dental implants and various ways to use them, and they can replace any number of teeth in the mouth. There are mini dental implants, which are smaller than traditional posts, as well as All-on-X, which is a process that involves using strategically-placed implants to support a full set of dentures.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

  1. Initial Consultation – Ropi will meet with you to make sure dental implants are a good option for you. Patients must have enough jawbone density to support the posts.
  2. Dental Implant Surgery – We can place dental implants right here in our Derry office! It normally takes about one hour to place a single dental implant.
  3. Osseointegration/Abutment – Dental implants need several months to fuse with your bone tissue, to form the permanent bond that supports your replacement teeth. Abutments, or small connector pieces, are also attached to the posts.
  4. Delivery of Restoration(s) – Once everything has healed, you can return to receive your custom-made dental restorations, which attach to the abutments and restore your oral function.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants don’t just fill the gaps in your smile; they also provide a long list of life-changing benefits, including:

  • They’re the only form of tooth replacement that prevents bone resorption in the jaw.
  • They restore a majority of your original biting power.
  • They can last for several decades or even a lifetime with proper oral hygiene.
  • They can replace any number of lost teeth anywhere inside the mouth.
